About the Blog

Patter, described by the credible source of the Urban Dictionary, is defined as:

"The slang and the use of slang by a certain person or group of persons. Can be used in a positive  or negative manner depending on the assessment of its quality"

You may be also be familiar with this guy, Korean Billy, from Facebook or Youtube as he covers various slang terms used in Scotland as a whole.

So, using my pal Billy as a reference point and as a compulsory requirement for third year marketing, I have undertaken the decision to try and define patter (compare it with banter) and most importantly try to compare discrepancies in dialect across Scotland. I was brought up in Aberdeenshire, have family from the Highlands and currently live in Glasgow. Also, having a flat mate with a strong Stirling accent and a number of friends from Edinburgh, I have experienced how slang diversifies and localises throughout Scotland. You could say that this is a patter trail of Scotland but in my opinion, that's awful patter.

I think patter extends beyond this; it is a mannerism, the way of life for some. Although the term originated in Glasgow and is less frequently used as you go North, I'll tell you for free that the patter ideology still exists. It is the exclusive anomaly that exists within friendship groups and thus, having good patter is a typical objective for a Scottish native.

So first things first, this blog is patter. Writing about patter is patter and so is speaking about patter. Seem like a bit of a laugh? Aye right. Patter is no joke - it is the fundamental presence from which an individual's reputation is founded and therefore, I kindly encourage you to assess my patter throughout each consecutive post by commenting below.
